Toronto - Niagara and Moving Pitcures
Today was in two parts, first the trip visiting Niagara Falls, and the second part continuing my fascination with all things Rush.
I was actually a little disappointed with my trip to Niagara Falls, typified by the difference in those two links to the place. The falls themselves and the Maid of the Mist boat trip were all great, it was also a nice sunny day and the weather was perfect for just slowly ambling around. However, the commercialism that has been attracted to the area, spoilt the view somewhat. I did go to the US side, but apparently it's worse there. Still you can avoid it reasonably easy, and taking pictures of the water you largely miss the eyesores that scar the horizon. The Falls are breath-taking, and I would highly recommend taking the Maid of the Mist boat trip, although take some clingfilm to wrap your camera in.
In the evening I took a stroll a few blocks up from the hotel and found The Ontario Legislative Building, which were used as the background for the cover of Moving Pictures, Rush's 1980 classic album. I then headed towards Little Italy, where I finally found Alex Lifeson's bar The Orbit Room, only to find it shut. It was only when I got back to the hotel much later in the ebvening that I discovered I got there slightly early and they would have been opened about 30 minutes later. Oh well, next time ;)
